The equestrian world runs in Katie Laurie’s genes, her mother Vicki was a top equestrian and represented Australia on numerous occasions. Her father Jeff McVean has represented Australia at three Olympic Games for show jumping, and held a world ranking within the top 10 for show jumping riders.
It didn’t take long for Laurie’s career to amass to great heights and great wins. She started off her international career under the New Zealand flag and represented her country eight times as a junior.
She was victorious at the World Junior Championship in Abu Dhabi in 2002, and went on to win the National Pony Grand Prix Series three times. Katie won the Pony of the Year title twice, and as an amateur rider she strode onto 48 victories in three years, plus the 2003 British Championship, riding her own horse.
While Laurie attended the 2008 Beijing Olympics with the New Zealand team, she has now transitioned over to Australia and represents her showing jumping here. Katie's national titles for Australia are also extensive, and although her international representation is limited she's proven that her talent packs a punch in the competition arena with a win at the Canadian Grand Prix in Las Vegas.
Laurie took some time away from competition to start a family and moved to Okotoks, Canada. Katie runs an equestrian business where she offers her customers world class training, lessons and facilities. Her business has gained a great reputation and large success.
Riding the grey stallion Casebrooke Lomond, Laurie made her Olympic debut for Australia at the Tokyo Olympics. After knocking four rails and encountering a fault at the water jump, Laurie elected to retire from the competition while on course.
