Karen's Story

Karen Kah (nee Gardiner) represented Australia at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics when short track speed skating was a demonstration sport. Her international career started in 1985 at the World Championships and she went on to establish herself as  the country’s leading female skater, performing on the international scene with distinction. At the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games, Kah was one of two women selected for Australia in short track. In the only individual event for women, the 500m, Kah broke the world record but was disqualified. In Lillehammer two years later, Kah made the quarter-finals in both her events, finishing 11th in the 1,000m and 12th in the 500m.

Her husband John went to the same Olympic Games as she did, also in short track speed skating. His brother Danny was a speed skater and carried the flag in 1992.
