Julie's Story
1976 -
Julie Towers won a gold medal for Australia in women’s hockey at Sydney 2000. The striker scored an impressive goal in the Hockeyroos’ 5-1 win against China in the medal round which secured its place in the gold medal final. In the final, the Hockeyroos beat Argentina 3-1 to become the first women’s hockey team to successfully defend an Olympic title. A dual Olympian, Towers was also a member of the Hockeyroos in Athens, where the team placed fifth. Other successes with the Hockeyroos include wins in the 1998 World Cup and two Champions Trophy titles.
