Joyce's Story
1921 -
Joyce King was one of only five Australian female athletes at London 1948. In the 4 x 100 metres relay, she joined with June Maston, Betty McKinnon and Shirley Strickland to finish a close second behind the Fanny Blankers-Koen-led Dutch team. It took a sparkling anchor leg by Blankers-Koen to claim the Olympic title. This was Australia’s first relay medal in Olympic athletics. King also competed in the 100 and 200 metres at London.
