Joshua's Story

Joshua Beaver made his Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games, competing in the men’s 100m and 200m backstroke.

He placed seventh in his 100m backstroke semi-final and fifth in the 200m backstroke semi-final.

Beaver booked his Games debut when he swum race of his life in the 200m backstroke at the 2015 Nationals, clocking 1:56.19. He had just missed a direct qualifying time in the 100m, finishing 0.18 seconds outside the nomination cut off.

Beaver overcame major shoulder surgery and a hernia operation between 2012 and 2014 to make it to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where he claimed a silver in the 200m backstroke and a bronze in the 100m backstroke.
