John's Story

1979 -

John Stephens won a silver medal for Australia in baseball in 2004. From New South Wales, the right-hander was part of a strong Aussie pitching squad in Athens. He entered the Olympic tournament with US Major Leagues experience, having played as a starting pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. He played in three games in Athens, pitching 16.1 innings, the most of any Aussie pitcher. His action on the mound included the final against Cuba, which the Aussies lost 6-2. The silver remains Australia’s only baseball medal from the Olympics.
