John Bylsma, from Victoria, was the first of Australia’s great Olympic individual pursuit cyclists. He finished fourth in the event in the rarefied atmosphere at Mexico City 1968 and repeated that placing four years later at Munich 1972. He was a 6-time Australia amateur pursuit champion and won the silver medal in the race at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games at Kingston, Jamaica.
