About Joel

As a graduate of the Sydney FC Youth Academy, Joel King made his senior debut in the final stages of the 2018-19 season. Later that year he signed his first professional contract to link with his boyhood club for the 2019-20 season.

Joel quickly became a regular in Sydney’s starting 11, as he was part of the run-on side in 25 of the team's 26 regular season games. He played a key role in defeating Melbourne City in the 2019-20 A-League grand final to claim the championship.

He had another season of regular football for Sydney FC in 2020-21, meeting Melbourne City once again in the A-League grand final but were defeated 3-1.

At Tokyo 2020 Joel was in the Olyroos squad that produced a stunning 2-0 defeat on Argentina to open their campaign. They would go on to finish in the pool stages and 12th overall.

It was the first time in 13 years an Olyroos squad had competed at the Olympics.
