A centre-ford born in New Zealand, Joe Kayes found his way into the Australian water polo system.
Making his Australian international debut in 2016, he also competed at the Rio Olympics in the same year and scored eight goals for the Sharks in the tournament.
He chased his passion for playing water polo all over the world. After competing in the 2009 FINA World Junior Championships for New Zealand in Croatia, Joe moved to Szeged in Hungary where he played for four years. Learning the game further in a dominant water polo nation, he was mentored by Tamás Molnar who won three Olympic gold medals with the Hungarian water polo team.
“He really spent a lot of time helping to develop me and taught me a lot,” Joe said.
