Jarrod's Story
Jarrod Bannister was a successful junior athlete and took home a bronze medal in javelin at the 2001 Sydney Youth Olympic Festival. He moved from Townsville to Melbourne in 2006 to train for the Commonwealth Games and threw consistently to earn himself a place at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where he finished sixth. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Bannister claimed his first major international gold medal with victory in the men’s javelin throw. At his second Olympic Games in London he finished 13th in his group, missing the final and finishing 27th overall.
