Janet's Story

Janet Steinbeck joined Lynne Watson, Judy Playfair and Lyn McClements to claim the silver medal behind the United States in the women’s 4 x 100 metres medley relay at Mexico City 1968. She anchored the team to a rather unexpected, close finish with the crack American outfit. Lyn Bell had swum the freestyle leg in the heat earlier in the day. Steinbeck also competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres freestyle events and collected a fourth placing with the 4 x 100 metres freestyle relay squad.  She had won a silver medal in the 4 x 110 yards freestyle relay at the 1966 Kingston British Commonwealth Games.
