Ian's Story

1946 –

Ian Ruff, from the northern New South Wales town of Taree, teamed with Ian Brown to win a bronze medal in the two-man 470 class in 1976. With Ruff as crew and Brown as skipper, the duo won one of the races, but finished behind the West German and Spanish teams in the overall standings. Their bronze medal was one of only five medals won by Australia in Montreal, which was the first Olympics since 1936 at which Australia did not win a gold.
