About Wendy
Badminton has always been Wendy Chen's passion. Although she grew up playing all sports, Badminton was the family sport and everyone played.
Wendy made her international debut in 2012 and had been playing professionally for several years prior.
Growing up Wendy idolised swiss tennis player Roger Federer for the attitude he displayed both on and off the court. In her spare time she enjoys reading, watching television series and cooking. She also speaks three languages: English, Mandarin and Taiwanese.
Throughout her badminton career Wendy has additionally juggled her studies in exercise physiology, studying at University of Queensland in Brisbane.
At the Rio Olympics in 2016 Wendy made her Olympic debut representing Australia. The schedule had her up against Thailand’s Porntip Buranaprasertsuk and Mauritius’ Kate Foo Kune. Unfortunately after a good contest with both athletes, Wendy fell short of a win in both matches.
Following the Olympics, in 2017, Wendy won the Casa Del Sole Noumea International and in 2018 she represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. In early 2020 Wendy made history when she won her sixth consecutive Oceania Championship title.
At the pandemic-delayed Tokyo 2020 Games in 2021 she tasted victory over Bulgarian Linda Zetchiri (2-1), but a loss to Danish athlete Mia Blichfeldt meant Wendy finished 15th overall in the women's singles.
