Harry's Story
Harry Morris competed in the preliminary rounds of the 3-metre springboard and 10-metre platform diving events at Amsterdam 1928. He also competed in the welterweight division of the freestyle wrestling and thus became one of the few Australians to contest two different sports at the Olympic Games (http://corporate.olympics.com.au/olympian-search/team-trivia-stats).
Like his fellow wrestlers at Amsterdam, Arthur Ford and Tom Bolger, he was hampered by a pre-Games injury, in his case to his knee, and an unfamiliarity with the Continental rules of wrestling employed during the Olympic bouts. The three lost all of their bouts and thus did not figure in the medals.
In 1949, Morris became the chairman of the newly-established Australian Gymnastic Union in preparation for an Australian team to compete at Melbourne 1956. At Melbourne, he was a member of the management committee for the gymnastics arena.
