Grant's Story
Grant Kenny was already a nationally celebrated surf lifesaving star and ironman when he turned his athletic attention to competing in kayaking at the Olympics. Teaming with fellow surf lifesaver Barry Kelly in the men’s K2 1000m, Kenny won a bronze medal – proof of his ability and dexterity on the water. Because of Kenny’s national profile, the medal success received much media attention, serving to increase canoe/kayak’s profile as a sport across the country. Kenny also competed in the men’s K4 1000m in 1988, finishing fourth. He married Olympic swimmer Lisa Curry.
