Glen's Story
1971 -
Glen Housman ranks among the outstanding 1500m freestyle swimmers produced in Australia. His finest moment came in Barcelona, where he won a silver medal behind teammate Kieren Perkins in the famous event. While Perkins set a world record of 14 mins 43.48 seconds, Housman swam 14 mins 55.29 secs, becoming just the second man after Perkins to swim under 15 minutes for the distance at the Olympics. He returned to the Olympics in 1996 as a member of the 4x200m freestyle relay team. Housman also won two Commonwealth Games gold medals in his career.
