Geoffrey's Story

1979 –

In the 100 metres butterfly at the Sydney Olympics, Michael Klim and Geoff Huegill were the top-ranked contenders for the gold medal. After the heats, Huegill was the fastest qualifier and in doing so became the second person, after Klim, to break 52 seconds for the event. The final saw Lars Frölander of Sweden touch out Klim and Huegill in a time 52 seconds, which was slower than the personal bests of both Australians. Huegill then joined with Klim, Matt Welsh and Regan Harrison to finish second in the final of the 4 x 100 metres medley relay, behind the Americans.

At Athens 2004 Huegill finished 8th in the 100m fly final.
