Gavin's Story
1976 -
Gavin Fingleson won a silver medal for Australia in baseball in 2004. The switch hitter enjoyed a fine tournament in Athens. He was among the statistical leaders at the plate, ranking fifth for hits with 13 and equal third for runs batted in with nine (the same number as teammate Rodney van Buizen). Australia won four of its seven preliminary round matches, then beat Japan 1-0 in the semi-final. It lost the gold medal final 6-2 to Cuba. The silver remains Australia’s only Olympic baseball medal.
