Frank Prihoda

Frank Prihoda left his birth country of Czechoslovakia for Australia in 1951, along with his sister Sasha Nekvapil, a Czech ski champion who was skiing with the national team in Switzerland at the time. 

Prihoda was naturalised four years later in 1955 and was chosen to represent Australia at the Olympic Winter Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.

At the age of 35, Prihoda competed in the Slalom and Giant Slalom, finishing 54th and 80th respectively. He later described the Games as "lovely but hard work".

Prihoda and Nekvapil became institutions in the NSW Snowy Mountains resort of Thredbo where they lived. Prihoda has had the distinction of being known as Australia's oldest competitive skier, taking to the Thredbo slopes well into his nineties.
