Ernest's Story
1904 - 1998
At Paris 1924, the 20-year-old Ern Henry was eliminated in the semi finals of the 100 metres freestyle before coming away from the Games with a relay medal. In the 4 x 200 metres, he joined with Frank Beaurepaire, Moss Christie and Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton to claim the silver medal behind the Johnny Weissmuller-led Americans. Ivan Stedman, who collected a silver medal in the relay at Antwerp 1920, swam in the heat and semi-final of the event but was replaced by Charlton for the final. Henry lived a long life, dying in 1998 at 94 years of age.
