Emma's Story
1980 -
Emma Johnson was only 16 years old when she won a bronze medal as a member of the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay team in Atlanta. The Sydney schoolgirl proved her nerve and mettle in the event, swimming excellent legs in both the qualifying heat and final. It was the highlight of a busy schedule for Johnson in Atlanta. She reached the final of the 400m individual medley, placing fifth, and also competed in the 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley events. The other members of the relay team were Julia Greville, Lise Mackie, Susie O’Neill and Nicole Livingstone. Johnson won a short course world title in the 400m individual medley in 1997.
