Elizabeth's Story
1963 -
Liz Smylie was a popular tennis player from Western Australia. When tennis returned to the Olympic program in 1988 after an absence of 60 years, Smylie teamed with Wendy Turnbull to win a bronze medal in the women’s doubles. She also participated in the Olympic singles tournament, losing in the first round. Smylie enjoyed a fine professional career, the highlight of which was winning the Wimbledon doubles crown with American Kathy Jordan. She also won three mixed doubles titles at Grand Slam tournaments. Smylie has stayed involved with the sport and has proven popular as a broadcaster.
