Elizabeth's Story
1971 -
Liz Weekes won a gold medal for Australia in women’s water polo at Sydney 2000. It was the first time a women’s water polo event had been held at the Games. It proved an instant success, with the success of the Australian team and the quality of the competition proving a big hit with Sydney fans. Weekes, from Sydney, was a goalkeeper. She made some crucial saves in Australia’s famous last-second victory over the United States in the gold medal final. She is married to Aussie rower Robert Scott, who won a silver medal with David Weightman in the men’s coxless pairs in 1996.
