Eddie's Story

1908 – 1980

At Los Angeles 1932, Eddie Scarf became the first of Australia's three medallists in Olympic wrestling. The other medallists are Jim Armstrong and Dick Garrard who won their medals at London 1948. He placed third in the heavyweight division of the freestyle wrestling. Scarf, who was also an accomplished boxer, also competed in wrestling at Berlin 1936 and at the Empire Games, in his home city of Sydney in 1938, where he won a gold medal in the light heavyweight division.
