Donna's Story
The 18-year-old Donna Gould was the Australian record holder in the 3,000 and 5,000 metres in athletics when she contested the heats of the shorter event at its inaugural running at Los Angeles 1984. The following year, Gould finished an excellent sixth at the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Women’s Road Race Championship over 15 kilometres at Gateshead, UK.
By Seoul 1988, she had switched to cycling where she finished 27th in the women’s road race. In competing at Seoul, she became the first woman since Lily Beaurepaire in 1920 to compete in more than one sport at the Olympic Games (http://corporate.olympics.com.au/olympian-search/team-trivia-stats). In 1990, she competed in the individual pursuit and the road race at the Commonwealth Games at Auckland.
