Deserie's Story
1960 -
Dual Olympian Deserie Baynes (nee Huddleston) won a bronze medal in women’s double trap in 1996. The medal was a highlight of a memorable Games for Aussie shooters. Before Atlanta, Australia had only won a single Olympic medal since 1900 in shooting. But Baynes, competing under her maiden name of Huddleston, and gold medallists Russell Mark (men’s double trap) and Michael Diamond (men’s trap) proved Aussie shotgun shooters were the equal of any national squad in the world. Baynes competed under her maiden name of Huddleston in Atlanta. She returned to the Games in 2000, competing under her married name. She missed a medal in the women’s trap and double trap.
