Deborah's Story
Dual Olympian Deborah Sosimenko competed at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games in hammer throw. The maths teacher from Sydney was something of a pioneer in the sport of women’s hammer throw in Australia. She made her Olympic debut in front of a home crowd at the Sydney 2000 Games, unluckily finishing just outside the medals in fifth place with a throw of 67.95 metres. Four years later she competed in Athens 2004 however she did not progress past the qualifying round. At the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Sosimenko won gold with a throw of 66.56m.
