Dean's Story
1966 -
Dean Woods was the world junior individual pursuit champion entering the 1984 Olympics and provided the youthful spark, energy and power which lifted the 4000m team pursuit team to victory. In the final, Woods, 18, did much of the early work as he and team-mates Michael Grenda, Kevin Nichols and Michael Turtur rode a brilliant tactical race against the United States. A prolific medallist at world championships and Commonwealth Games, Woods returned to the Olympics in 1988 and won two more medals, a silver in the 4000m individual pursuit and bronze in the 4000m team pursuit. Eight years later he reached his third Olympics, where he won his fourth medal, bronze in the men’s team pursuit with Brett Aitken, Brad McGee, Stuart O’Grady and Tim O’Shannessey.
