David's Story
1965 -
David Wansbrough represented Australia in men’s hockey in 1992, winning a silver medal. The team performed brilliantly in Barcelona, outscoring opponents 20-2 in their five preliminary round matches, winning four of them and drawing the other 1-1 with eventual gold medallist, Germany. In the semi-final the Kookaburras defeated the favoured Dutch team 3-2, setting up a re-match with Germany in the final. However, despite a valiant effort Australia lost 2-1. It was Australia’s first men’s hockey medal since 1976.
