David's Story

Having competed at his first World Cup event in 1985, David Chapman gave up the competitive side of the shooting for over a decade after getting married. His return to the sport was well warranted when he made his Olympic debut at the Sydney 2000 Games where he finished 20th in the 25m rapid pistol.

It would be another 12 years before Chapman would return to Olympic competition but it would be worth the wait. Chapman and his daughter Hayley made history at the London 2012 Games when they became the first father-daughter duo to compete for Australia at an Olympic Games. He would go on to finish the 25m rapid pistol event in 18th.

Having won silver and bronze at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games, Chapman added Commonwealth Champion to his resume when he claimed 25m rapid pistol gold in 2014. He got his third shot at the Olympic Games in Rio where he claimed 26th.
