Daniel's Story
Daniel Smith booked his ticket to a debut Olympics in Rio after finishing fourth in the 200m freestyle at the 2016 Nationals.
A bronze medallist at the 2015 World Championships, Smith returned to the pool in 2014 after a stint in rehab due to addiction problems and since then has found success on the national and world stage.
Smith combined with Thomas Fraser-Holmes, David McKeon and Mack Horton to finish fourth in the 4x200m freestyle relay, an agonising 0.68 outside the medal positions with a total time of 7:04.18.
Smith's Olympic journey began at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival where he claimed two gold, one silver and one bronze in the swimming.
