Damian's Story
1972 - 2007
Damian McDonald was a road cyclist from the Victorian regional city of Wangaratta. In 1992 he was a reserve for four-man pursuit team at the Barcelona Olympics, the team that won the silver medal. Four years later he was selected to his first Olympic Team, competing in the road race at the 1996 Atlanta Games. He finished 65th out of 194 competitors in a time of 4:56.47.
Two years earlier, he took home gold as part of the team that won the road cycling time trial at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada.
McDonald was tragically killed in a traffic accident in Melbourne in 2007. The Blackburn Cycling Club, where McDonald was a life member since 1992, holds a 60km memorial ride each year in his honour.
