Chloe Moran grew up in Adelaide playing hockey and participating in surf lifesaving, but the experts at the South Australian Sports Institute’s talent identification program saw something more in her.
She was picked as either a kayaker or a cyclist – and it was the velodrome that caught her attention.
“I started cycling through the SASI talent identification program,” Chloe said. “I had the opportunity to try out track cycling at the Adelaide velodrome and enjoyed it from the very first session.”
Chloe rose quickly through junior ranks and in 2015 she was part of the pursuit team that set an Australian record on their way to claiming silver at the 2015 junior world championships in Kazakhstan.
At the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games she won gold in the team pursuit alongside Georgia Baker, Sophie Edwards and Maeve Plouffe.
Chloe also joined a UCI pro team in 2022 and began competing on the road in Australia and Europe.
In the lead-up she had claimed two national titles in 2021 and a brace of Oceania crowns in 2022, including the points race. She followed up with multiple national and Oceania titles in 2023 and 2024. She was part of the Australian pursuit team that finished fifth at the 2023 world championships in Glasgow.
At the 2024 track nationals, Chloe won a nail-biting finish to the points race to notch her fourth consecutive title in the event. She was also part of the title-winning South Australian pursuit team.
At her debut Olympic appearance, Chloe helped set a new national record alongside Sophie Edwards, Maeve Plouffe and Georgia Baker when the quartet posted a time of 4:08.612 in their first race. The team went on to finish seventh however Chloe was replaced by Alex Manly for the final races.
Chloe also competed in the women's sprint and keirin, finishing 27th and 23rd respectively.
Outside of cycling, Chloe's parents are both senior intensive care consultants at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide. Chloe is also studying for a bachelor of medical science at Flinders University.
