Arthur's Story
1887 – 1966
Arthur Scott rowed in the four seat of the eight from Murray Bridge, South Australia, “The Cods” which represented Australia at Paris 1924. He had previously served in World War I. The crew: HE Graetz (bow), ED Thomas (2), WEH Jarvis (3), AV Scott (4), AE Taueber (5), WM Sladden (6), FM Cummings (7), WH Pfeiffer (stroke), RA Cummings (cox).
After the cessation of hostilities, he was a member of the winning AIF (Australian Imperial Force) crew at the Royal Peace Regatta in 1919. The cup presented by King George V to that crew eventually became the trophy, the King’s Cup, which is awarded to the winning men’s eight at the annual Australian interstate rowing regatta. Other Olympians in the AIF crew were Sydney Middleton (London 1908, Stockholm 1912) and Harry Hauenstein (Stockholm 1912).
In 1922, Scott was in the South Australian crew that in winning the eights interstate championship received the King’s Cup the first time it was presented as a trophy in Australia.
