Anthony's Story
West Australian rower Tony Lovrich won a silver medal in the men’s quadruple sculls with Gary Gullock, Tim McLaren and Paul Reedy. The quad led for much of the race before being caught on the line by the fast-finishing West Germans. Despite its proud international record in rowing, Australia had won only one Olympic medal since 1956 entering the 1984 Games (the men’s eight won a silver medal in 1968.) Lovrich has since enjoyed a successful coaching career in Perth and was a coach of the Australian team at the 1996 Olympics.
