Angus's Story

Born and raised in the Sutherland Shire, it was no surprise Angus Lambie was a swimmer. However at age 11, Angus took up playing water polo as he loved the team aspect of the sport.

After finishing high school, Angus joined the elite athlete program at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he played for the Wests Magpies in the Australian Water Polo League (AWPL).

Winning the AWPL in 2017 and 2019, Angus finally got the opportunity to play for the Aussie Sharks, making his debut in early 2019.

Angus then went on to win another two AWPL titles with Wests Magpies, in 2022 and 2023, establishing himself as a formula for the winning side.

In 2023 Angus played in his first major international tournament for Australia at the World Aquatics Cup.

Shortly after Angus finally got the chance to compete at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, a tournament he had missed out on in the previous year due to an injury. Angus personally considers this comeback to be his career highlight as it felt like a second chance to prove himself.

For the 2023-24 season, Angus signed for Montenegrin club VK Primorac Kotor, where he competed in the LEN Champions League and Euro Cup. The on international duties Angus played every game of the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships.

At the Paris 2024 Olympics Angus and the Sharks recorded statement wins over defending Olympic champion Serbia, host nation France and Hungary in the group stage.

Finishing second in their group, it gave Australia a place in the men's Olympic quarter-finals for the first time since London 2012.

A penalty-shootout loss to the USA in the quarter-finals sent the Sharks into the 5th-8th classification games and they came away in 8th place, up from the team's 9th overall placing at Tokyo 2020.
