Angela's Story
1981 -
Angie Lambert (nee Skirving) won a gold medal for Australia in women’s hockey at Sydney 2000. The Queenslander was the youngest member of the team at the Games at age 19. A tall, agile and talented defender, Lambert enjoyed an excellent tournament. She was a key member of the Hockeyroos’ stifling defence: the team never conceded more than one goal in a game and outscored its opposition 25-5 for the tournament. A triple Olympian, Skirving has represented Australia more than 230 times. She played under her maiden name of Skirving in Sydney and also in Athens, but changed her name before Beijing after marrying Stephen Lambert, a bronze medallist for the Australian men’s hockey team in 2008. The Hockeyroos placed fifth in 2004 and 2008.
