Andrew's Story
1965 -
Andrew Murtha was a member of Australia’s history making men’s 5000m short track speed skating relay team at the Lillehammer 1994 Olympics. The team of Murtha, Steven Bradbury, Kieran Hansen and Richard Nizielski won a bronze medal, Australia’s first Winter Olympic medal. The foursome had raced together at the 1992 Winter Olympics, where they were eliminated in the semi-finals after falling. They arrived in Lillehammer as an experienced international unit and lived up to their world-class reputation. After placing second in their qualifying heat, they put in a strong tactical race to win the bronze medal.
