Amy's Story

Born in North Carolina, Amy Ives was a promising young gymnast. Ives competed at state level in the USA before moving to Australia in 2003 and switching to rowing. After making her senior rowing debut in 2007, Ives competed in the women’s quadruple sculls at the 2008 Beijing Games where the Australians finished sixth.

She competed at her second Olympic Games four years later in London, again in the quadruple sculls. Alongside compatriots Dana Faletic, Kerry Hore and Pauline Frasca, the crew finished second in their heat and then qualified for the final after winning the repechage. The Aussies were fourth at each 500m mark and the finish line, coming in just behind the USA crew who claimed bronze, with Ukraine winning gold and Germany claiming silver.
