Alicia's Story
Alicia Poto won a silver medal as a member of the Australian women’s basketball team in 2004. From New South Wales, the guard joined the roster of the Opals after captaining the Australian junior team as a teenager. The Opals enjoyed a fine tournament in Athens. The team was undefeated entering the final, having won all of its seven previous matches. However, in a re-match of the Sydney 2000 final, the Opals were beaten by the United States, the defending champion. It was the third consecutive medal at the Games for the Opals after winning bronze in 1996 and silver in 2000.
