Alexei's Story
Born in Tyumen, Russia, Alex Almoukov moved to Australia when he was seven. He made his Olympic debut as a 19-year-old, competing as Australia's sole Biathlon representative at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. His debut came after just two years in the sport, switching from Cross Country in 2008. Almoukov competed in the 10km sprint and 20km individual events in 2010, with his best result being 78th in the 20km.
Four years later in Sochi, Almoukov made history, recording Australia’s best male biathlon result at an Olympics when he finished 45th in the 20km Individual event. He also finished 73rd in the 10km Sprint.
Almoukov's coach is his father Nick, who was a Russian Cross Country athlete.
