Two wins from two BMX World Cup races has Saya Sakakibara as the runaway world no.1 and a top-four finish at the Beach Volleyball World Championships highlights the weekend in Olympic sports.
BMX - Racing - Golden end to Sakakibara's golden World Cup season
Saya Sakakibara has finished the UCI BMX Racing World Cup season as world no.1, with clutch performances to win the final rounds of the season in Santiago del Estero, Argentina over the weekend.
She led from start to finish in rounds nine and 10, going head-to-head with Great Britain's Olympic champion Bethany Shriever who was within close striking distance of the overall no.1 ranking. However, Saya's domination of round nine and 10 put her spot at the top beyond doubt.
Saya, whose Tokyo 2020 Olympics ended with a crash in the heats, considered retirement last year but has returned to the sport in remakrable fashion - winning five out of the 10 World Cup rounds in 2023.
Fellow Olympians Bodi Turner and Lauren Reynolds also recorded top 10 finishes in round nine, placing third and seventh in the men's and women's competitions respectively.
