For Paris 2024, surfing events were held at Teahupoʻo, Tahiti, situated 16,000 km away from the host nation, France. With varying weather conditions and numerous delays, the Australian competitors had notable yet contrasting outcomes.

Jack Robinson achieved an historic silver medal in the men’s competition, making it Australia's best-ever result in Olympic surfing. He was narrowly defeated by French surfer Kauli Vaast, who claimed gold.

Despite Robinson's best wave scoring 7.83, he couldn't overcome Vaast, particularly as the wave conditions worsened towards the end of the final. Brazilian Gabriel Medina earned the bronze.

Australia’s best performing athlete in the women’s competition was Tyler Wright. Her campaign concluded with her elimination in the quarterfinals, where she was defeated by American Caroline Marks, who went on to win the gold medal.

The event was also impacted by a four-day delay in the semifinals and finals due to poor wave conditions. Despite this setback, Jack's silver medal and Tyler's quarter-final performance highlighted Australia's presence in the competition.
