BOXING: Six Australian boxers, including Commonwealth Games gold medallist Shelley Watts, remain in the hunt for Olympic qualification as the Asian qualifiers move into the quarter final stage of competition.
Boxers need to finish top three in Qian’an, China, to earn a place in Rio, with Watts and 2014 Youth Olympic Games medallist, Caitlin Parker, both in action later today.
Also still in the hunt are NSW’s Daniel Lewis in the 75kg division, Victoria’s Jason Whateley in the men’s heavyweight division, South Australia’s David Biddle in the 64kg division and Victoria’s Harry Garside in the men’s lightweight.
Watts, who went into the event seeded third, will take on Tajikistan’s Mavzuna Chorieva in her 60kg quarter final.
Among those who have bowed out of the Championships are 2014 Commonwealth Games boxer Kristy Harris and Western Australia’s Fano Kori and Jayden Hansen.
