SHORT TRACK: Sochi Olympian Deanna Lockett has continued her impressive season on the World Cup circuit with two top 5 placings at the Short Track Speed Skating event in Seoul, Korea.
The 19 year-old Olympic Winter Institute athlete (OWIA) followed up her impressive fourth placing in the 3000 metres last night with a fifth placing today in the 1500 metres.
Fellow Sochi Olympian and OWIA representative, Pierre Boda had a fantastic weekend also. Boda qualified for the World Cup directly from the qualifying rounds for the very first time in the 1000 metres, eventually finishing in 13th position overall. He also set a new Australian record in his Quarter Final race, clocking a very impressive one minute 26.053 seconds.
Alex Bryant, Nate Henry and Armstrong Lazenby all skated well in their respective individual disciplines on the weekend and coach Anthony Barthell said “overall the guys are skating well and gaining a ton of experience”.
Undoubtedly one of the highlights of the season so far for the Aussie men was in the 5000 metres relay. Boda, Henry, Lazenby and Bryant put in a fantastic performance to place sixth overall. Barthell said the relay was one of the best performances he has seen from his charges so far.
The next Short Track World Cup of the season will be held in Germany from 6 February.
