OWIA moguls skier Jane Sexton and rookie team-mate Nick Fisher were the best of the six strong Australian moguls skiing team in the opening round of the 2003/04 World Cup in Ruka, Finland, overnight.
Sexton finished in 13th place in qualifying, just one place outside the 12 woman final, in a career best World Cup result, while Fisher, in his first World Cup appearance, was 14th in qualifying, two places out of the final.
Fisher pushed the more experienced Michael Robertson into 15th place by one hundredth of a point, while the OWI’s other rookie competitors, brothers Jason and Dale Begg-Smith, finished in 32nd and 37th place.
Sexton’s team-mate Manuela Berchtold finished in 27th place in the women’s.
The next event is in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, on December 20.
