Warren Potent has defied a dislocated shoulder to claim tenth place at the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships

Warren Potent has defied a dislocated shoulder to claim tenth place at the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Munich, Germany.

Potent, who dislocated his shoulder on Thursday, recorded a score of 597 in the men’s 50m prone rifle to miss out on a place in the final by one point.

The Sydney resident, who won bronze in the event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, had shot a 597 in the elimination round on Tuesday, but the same score was not quite enough to make it through to the eight person final.

Two time Olympic gold medallist Michael Diamond (NSW) faces a tough task to make the final of the men’s trap after shooting a score of 72 from 75 in his first three rounds.

Diamond hit two perfect scores of 25, before scoring a 22 in his third round of the day, leaving himself two targets outside the final as it currently stands.

Adam Vella (VIC), who earlier in 2010 won the World Cup event in Beijing, also sits on a score of 72 targets, after finishing the day with a 25 in his third round.

The fourth and fifth rounds will be contested on Tuesday morning, with six shooters to progress to the final on Tuesday afternoon.

The 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships are the first opportunity for athletes to secure spots for their country at the London Olympics in July 2012. All up there are 69 Olympic spots on the line.
