Parker aims for bronze medal
BOXING: Caitlin Parker (blue) has gone down in the semi-final to E Wojcik (POL). She now turns her attention to winning a Youth Olympic Games bronze medal tomorrow.

BOXING: Going into the semi-final bout, Caitlin Parker had revenge on her mind after being defeated by E Wojcik (POL) at the Junior World Championships earlier this year.

The Perth boxer couldn’t come away with the win; going down to the Polish boxer 2-0 after one judge couldn’t decide a victor.

“I thought I did enough but Elizbeta is a tough girl and she knows little tricks that hold you so you can’t punch,” the upset Parker said.

“I’m very disappointed but I’ll be going for bronze tomorrow so I’ll be doing my all to come away from the Youth Olympic Games with a medal.”

Parker is ranked number two at the Youth Olympic Games behind her rival Wojcik. The eighteen-year-old knew she had to put in the hard yards to come away with a win today.

The judge’s scores showed the bout was very close with scores of 40-36, 38-38 and 39-37 in favour of Wojcik.

“I trained so hard coming into the Youth Olympic Games and this bout. I would push myself at training every morning and every night, sometimes even three times a day on,” Parker said.

“Some things aren’t meant to be.”

It’s now onto the bronze medal bout for Parker taking on C Desmond (IRL) who went down to N C Chen (TPE) 3-0 in the other semi-final.

Desmond and Parker are friends so it’ll be tough for them to fight against each other for bronze. The girls fight starts at 15:15 (CST) tomorrow.

Despite losing in the preliminaries Yesterday, Satali Tevi-Fuimaono will be boxing for fifth place against K Kallioinen (FIN) in Men’s middle weight at 20:30 (CST) tomorrow.
