Australia’s women’s Rugby Sevens team has made the perfect start to its Paris Games by beating South Africa and Great Britain as they charge towards the quarter-finals.

Led by the Levi sisters Maddison and Teagan, who combined for 10 tries in two games, Australia beat South Africa 34-5 and then Great Britain 36-5 at Stade de France on the opening day of the tournament.

Maddison scored a first-half hat-trick on her way to four tries against South Africa, then followed up with another three against GB.

“She’s awesome, she’s our little cheat code out there,” Teagan said of her older sister.

“I’m lucky to have her on my side, I would hate to be against her.”

“She’s such an amazing athlete and if the people inside her don’t do their job then she doesn’t get the balls outside.”

It wasn’t just in attack that Maddison shone, she produced a try-saving chase-down tackle to open the game against Great Britain.

“Obviously defence wins games and that’s why she’s one of the best athletes of the Rugby Sevens,” Teagan said.

Tia Hands also had a big impact on the opening day by scoring four tries - two in each game.

Australia can secure top spot in its group with its final game against Ireland at 10:30pm AEST on Monday 29 July which will be followed by the quarter-finals.
