CANOE/KAYAK - SPRINT: The versatile Rosalyn Lawrence was Australia’s stand out performer on the final day of competition at the World Canoe Slalom Championships in Prague.

24-year-old Lawrence capped off a demanding year with seventh in the final of the K1, to follow from her fifth in yesterday’s C1 final and gold in yesterday’s C1 team event.

Lawrence also teamed up with Jessica Fox and Sarah Grant to finish fourth in the K1 teams event.

The tough Prague course brought many of the world’s top paddlers unstuck, including Fox and Grant in the semi-finals. 24 hours after her double-gold triumph in the C1 and C1 teams, Fox had to settle for 18th in K1 semi, while Grant just missed the final in 12th.

Lawrence though proved just how tough she is. Very few women compete in both the C1 and the K1, and the Penrith paddler has done all year.

"I'm really happy that I was in the final, it's my first World Championships final in the K1," she said.

"But I'm a little bit disappointed with the run, I know I could have done better. It was a pretty tough course, a lot of girls were having trouble, I was hoping I wasn't one of them.

"It is a bit of an emotional roller coaster, after the individual C1 and then winning the C1 teams I was pretty excited. But I knew I had to get back on track to make the final."

Lawrence said she was disappointed she didn't have better results during the European summer, but felt she was making progress.

For Fox the emotion and excitement of the previous day seemed to catch up with her.

"I'm really disappointed," she said.

"Yesterday was such a long day, but I really wanted to make this final. I made a mistake early, and I didn't really recover from that. I felt quite low in the water.

"That wasn't my best race, not by a long way."

Australia finish the 2013 World Championships with two gold medals and four finalists, as well as several very promising individual performances.
